Mathew Knowles selected as 2016 CERCL Distinguisehd Visting Lecturer

   Author, music mogul, and star builder Mathews Knowles is a self-made entrepreneurial success story that has spread worldwide. Yet alongside the many trails he has blazed in the entertainment industry,there are just as many running throughout the halls of academia, where Knowles has deep roots as a scholar and instructor. As a 1974 graduate of Fisk University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, he was later bestowed the honor of Doctor of Humane Letters from his Alma mater in 2008. Knowles has taught at Fisk University and the last eight years at Texas Southern as a visiting professor in the School of Communication in the Entertainment, Recording, Management (ERM) degree program, the only of its type in the US as well as Media Entertainment on a graduate school level. He also holds a MBA in Strategic Planning and Organizational Culture from Cornerstone Christian Bible College.Knowles has been a popular keynote speaker and guest lecturer at colleges, universities, and various organizations nationwide for many years including Rice University, University of Southern California, Berklee College of Music, The Learning Annex, Management Leadership for Tomorrow, Billboard Music & Money Symposium, The Power of Diversity Leadership Panel Discussion, E Women's Network and numerous others.

Building from the success of his latest number one best seller, "The DNA of Achievers: 10 Traits of Highly Successful Professionals" (Music World Publishing, 2015), he takes the same galvanizing methods he is renowned for into his lecture series entitled, "Entrepreneurship - The DNA of Achievers: Developing Your Skills and Talents." Those who know of Knowles as the man behind one of the industry's most accomplished music labels-Music World Entertainment-and the careers of superstar act Destiny's Child among many others, are usually among the eager attendees who are looking for leads with their own careers and dreams.On Saturday April, 9, 2016 Houston's own Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning-CERCL will be connecting him to his adopted city of Houston, Texas, which he has consistently supported with resources for empowerment-from entertainment to information and infrastructure for over three decades. For his efforts, he was named the "2007 International Executive of the Year" by the Greater Houston Partnership, and was honored by the City of Houston with the declaration of "Mathew Knowles Day" among other accolades.

As a part of their own committed community outreach, CERCL(formerly known as Houston Enriches Rice Education-the HERE Project), will be hosting Knowles as their 2016 Distinguished Visiting Lecturer. In this exclusive engagement for the Rice Community only, the Grammy Award winning label executive will present the "Entrepreneurship - The DNA of Achievers: Developing Your Skills and Talents" seminar in a special engagement. Known for its community engagement, including their renowned leadership lecture series;CERCL strives to develop initiatives, events, and activities that connect with the citizens of Houston. Under the direction of Founding Director, Anthony B. Pinn (Agnes Cullen Arnold Professor of Humanities, Professor of Religious Studies), the center sponsors a series of lectures by iconic leaders from within media, entertainment, business, and academia-all free and open to the larger Houston community.

In addition to delivering his informative presentation, Knowles will choose two Rice University undergraduate students for a summer internship at Music World Entertainment. Students from Harvard University, University of Michigan, Duke University and others have interned at MWE. Eligibility for the selection will be based on the participants who bring and register the most guests for the event.The seminar will be followed by a brief Q&A with Mr. Knowles, and will even include a surprise guest appearance.
