Yamiche Alcindor named host of PBS Washington Week

(The Slice): White House Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor of PBS has been named host of "Washington Week." The Georgetown grad says filling the seat once occupied by the late Gwen Ifill is both a source of pride and pressure. Robert Costa is the immediate previous host of Washington Week making Yamiche the youngest at age 34.

A member of the same sorority as VP Kamala Harris, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alcindor will continue to represent PBS in her role in the Brady Press Briefing Room. She is a New York Times and USA Today alum who started her career in print media. Despite having won awards for her work, Yamiche is known for demonstrating determination and professionalism when former Pres. Donald Trump berated her. Mrs. Alcindor' rise has been impressive considering the moves she has made as a national journalist in a decade. On the other hand, the rise has not come without some criticism. FOX News called her an activist reporter. One complaint was about a lack of balance on a program known for showing both political sides and being neutral. Another tweet bemoaning her placement in a veteran seat as a reason to defund PBS. Winans, Sr. has wed his long time girlfriend Deneen R. Carter. Carter is a 57-year-old physical therapist and minister at Perfecting Church in Detroit, founded by Winans. Little is known about the bride publicly. The gospel legend introduced the now Mrs. Winans as his fiance to the congregants of Perfecting in October of 2021. The couple had been in a relationship for 15 years. Pastor Winans was previously married to fellow gospel singer Vicki Winans (with whom he has two sons) for 16 years before they divorced in 1995.
