Tyler Perry to revive Madea character for Netflix movie

Mabel Simmons, AKA Madea, is coming out of retirement.  Tyler Perry made the announcement on Instagram saying that he struck a deal with Netflix to produce "A Madea Homecoming," which will be released in 2022.   Madea made a grand exit back in 2019 when Perry announced the end  of the Madea franchise.  Simmons, who Perry plays, debuted on stage in 1999 in "I Can Do Bad All By Myself." The play was adapted into a movie starring Oscar winner Taraji P. Henson.  The last time we saw the pistol packing senior citizen she was at  a homegoing service in "A Madea Family Funeral."   Fans noticed Perry didn't kill her off and hoped that one day that would see Madea.

Tyler Perry Studios continues to grow into an entertainment "oyster" that produces various types of Entertainment content.  Mr. Perry is a part owner of BET Plus where he has created new content and airs some of his old content. In addition to the new Madea flick he also has an upcoming animation that he says he created for his son and works in partnership with the OWN Network on several projects.

Perry's enormous success and equally huge heart was recognized at the 2021 Academy Award with a special honor, The Governor's Award.
