The widespread use of Artificial Intelligence, both positively and negatively is taking shape in all capacities. In music, technological innovation has already been used to "resurrect" artists for concert performances such as the well known holographic rendering of Tupac Shakur at Coachella in 2012. The deceased artist was able to "perform" with fellow West Coast rappers Snoop and Dr. Dre. While providing a tangible experience with bygone artists can be gratifying, there is a down side. In the music industry, where sampling is common, creators can be particularly vulnerable to over-reach and may potentially impact the bottom line across the board from artists to writers and producers.
One of the most common applications of AI currently in the music industry is through suggesting music. In this manner it is an enhancement to music marketing. Algorithms are being used to study people's listening habits. The style and types of songs that a person likes are then recommended via streaming seevises and/or advertisements. This seems harmless; perhaps it is deemed an efficiency that can increase sales. But AI is much more robust than that. The problem is that no one knows how advanced it can get or how far it could go.
