(TSN): Michael Bennett, the Democratic Senator from Colorado is the first Democrat to publicly state that Pres. Joe Biden should pull out of the race. In an appearance with CNN's Caitlyn Collins on Tuesday he stated, "Donald Trump is on track to win this election and may win it by a landslide. . .I think we could lose the whole thing." With Biden representing the party at this juncture in the election season, the former presidential hopeful, fears Republicans could regain the majority in both the House and Senate
Bennet, a former presidential candidate, appeared concerned but did not indicate he was not on Biden's side as talks about the caucus's position on the matter were underway on the Hill a day earlier. He said at the time that to remain viable in the race Biden would have to campaign hard and play up his strengths to voters. The position he shared on air is an extreme pivot from a leader of a state that Biden won in the primary. Back in March when Biden visited Colorado Bennett said he was on board to help get Biden re-elected. Yet, he believes "it's a moral question of moving our country forward."
Mr. Bennet's defection also is a side-swipe to a letter Biden wrote to Congress saying he is not bowing out, an intention he repeated on the campaign trail multiple times.
In making such a damning prediction he seems to be subliminally attempting to persuade fellow democrats to join him in getting the president to step aside, irrespective of Biden's record.
"I want him to do whatever he decides to do," Speaker of the house emerita Nancy Pelosi said in a separate interview on CNN. She said politicians should keep their disapproval of Biden private, particularly while the summit is underway.
The White House made it clear they are moving on from the debate fall out as pres. Bidne concentrates on his NATO agenda as host of the NATO Summit this week.
Congressman Adam Smith believes there are a whole host of other Democrats" who could deliver a win. "If we are deeply concerned the choice is obvious he told Anna Cabrera, adding that he called the Whtie house and said that Biden should step aside. He said democrats should unify around a different nominee and the caucus should do everything to select someone else. He said he would support Vice Pres. Kamala Harris as the nominee.
Many members of the party have stated they believe
Biden is the only one who can win against Trump.
Donald Trump pounced fissures in the Democratic Party saying at a rally that the Democratic party is falling apart.
Pelosi's advice is to "leave it to the president to decide if he wants to step aside."
Sherod Brown of Ohio and Ron Tester of Montana have also have expressed their doubts that Biden can win re-election.
