Annie Lennox is Jazzy on Nostalgia Album

buzzz worthy. . .

Scottish born songstress Annie Lennox delivered a captivating read of the George Gershwin classic "Summertime" on "Kelly and Michael" yesterday. The former lead singer of the Eurythmics, 59, wore a satin red floor length dress (atypical from her preferred pant suits and leg-bearing hemlines) as she mesmerized the audience with her interpretation of the American favorite. Like the floor length dress, Lennox is trying something new with her latest album, "Nostalgia." Singing American standards is a departure from here previous work. She explained to the Associated press that jazz is a form of American msic with which she had little familiarity and only recently started to study it.   Lennox had never sung with a jazz band before connecting with Herbie Hancock for on AIDS benefit in DC two years ago.  That experiene gave her the idea to give the music a try.   A jazzy collection of traditional hits, "Summertime" is featured on "Nostalgia" along with Billie Holiday's, "God Bless the Child" and "Strange Fruit" as well as "Spell On You."  Lennox said she tried to stay true to each recording, with her own personal interpretation of them
