Newsweek reporter fired over false report about president Trump

Newsweek reporter Jessica Kwong lost her job over inaccurate reporting about Pres. Donald Trump's  Thanksgiving break schedule. Kwong had written that the president would spend  his Thanksgiving break tweeting and golfing. However, the president actually visited troops in Afghanistan for the first time. His trip was not publicized and was a secret, which Keong would nit have known in advance. Tge report easxwritten on a sheer assumption and a hint of ssrcasm but presented as fact.

The publication has taken responsibility for the false report and terminated Kwong,  as well as demoted an editor.

The matter was addressed in the following statement:

"Newsweek investigated the failures that led to the publication of the inaccurate report that President Trump spent Thanksgiving tweeting and golfing rather than visiting troops in Afghanistan. The story has been corrected, the reporter responsible was terminated and the editor was demoted," Newsweek said in a statement. "We will continue to review our processes and, if required, take further action."
