Trump defends harsh border protection ideas, lashes out against Schifff
The around the clock ranting that Pres. Donald Trump has done on Twitter spilled over into a live press interaction. From the Oval Office today the president was described by a pooler as “combative” as he defended his requirements for the border wall that were not previously fulfilled. Reportedly childhood stuff but it was four of the leaders of the charge against him in the Ukraine scandal that was revealed via whistle blower complaint that he had the strongest words.
Trump said the whistleblower mischaracterized his Ukraine conversation.
Insisted that he's within his authority to pursue Biden.
"I have a duty to report corruption and Biden is corrupt."
Trump picked a shouted question about the border moat to keep the press in the room after a thank-you. Said he wanted to answer it and it was a fair question. He recited the allegations in much detail -- recounting that he allegedly wanted a moat with alligators and snakes, an electrified fence with flesh piercing spikes. Obviously familiar with the report.
Moat: "It's not a word I use."
Said his comms people asked him yesterday if he's every said any of that. "That's a stupid question," he said he told them because "obviously it's fake," since it comes from the Washington Post.
"Never said it. Never thought of it.... It was a total lie."
POTUS offered a parting shot as the pool departed the Oval: "Go write a Schiff like story"
He kept back a handful of wire reporters. One asked if he will further restrict the number of people with access to his foreign leader calls and he said "I might."
