Verdict Reached for Memphis Officers Who Killed Tyre Nichols

A verdict has been reached in the brutal beating death of  Tyre Nichols involving 5 black Memphis police officers. Convictions varied. Three of the officers were charged with violation of civil rights and use of excessive force while two who previously entered a guilty plea

were acquitted on a lesser federal offense of  witness tampering.

The family was emotional while the video was played during closing arguments.

State Representative Justin Pearson comforted the mother as she closed her eyes the entire time. While speaking at a Congressional Black Caucus  press conference weeks ago RoVaughn Wells told Congress, "All our kids being murdered, their blood is on your hands."

In 2023 Nichols, 29 was confronted at a traffic stop, chased and fatally jumped.  He died from injuries days later.

Attorneys Ben Crump and Anthony Romanucci, representing the Nichols' family, said in a statement that the verdicts “bring a measure of accountability for his senseless and tragic death.” “Our fight for justice for Tyre is far from over,” the lawyers said in a joint statement.

Sentencing was set for January 22, 2025.
