Sovereignty Defeats Journalism for 2025 Kentucky Derby Win

 The 2025 Winner of the Kentucky Derby. . .


(TSN): Sovereignty, the horse and jockey Junior Alvarado won the Kentucky Derby. They crossed the finish line at Churchill Downs in  2 minutes and 2.31 seconds.Theybwon $3.1 million out of a total of $5 million. The 151st championship hirsebeace, held on May 3,   concluded with Sovereignty claiming victory under muddy conditions.  It was the horses third win in six years. 


Sovereignty is  a bay colt bred and owned by Godolphin and trained by Bill Mott.   Despite a slight bobble at the start, Sovereignty settled near the back of the pack before making a strong move in the final stretch to overtake the favorite, Journalism,  winning  by 1.5 lengths. Baeza finished third, followed by Final Gambit in fourth and Owen Almighty in fifth.


Here is the breakdown of betting  payouts,...a $2 win bet on Sovereignty returned $17.96. The $2 exacta (Sovereignty and Journalism) paid $48.32, the $0.50 trifecta (Sovereignty, Journalism, Baeza) returned $115.56, and the $1 superfecta (adding Final Gambit) paid $1,682.27 .


Sovereignty's triumph sets the stage for the next leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, as he aims to continue his winning streak.
