BET AWARDS 13 IS THE #1 AWARD SHOW ON CABLE AMONG ADULTS 18-49, DRAWING 7.6 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS

NEW YORK, July 1, 2013 - For the second consecutive year, the live premiere of the BET AWARDS 13 on Sunday, June 30, is cable’s #1 award show among adults 18-49, drawing 7.6 million total viewers and accounting for 51% of all social chatter across all of cable, dominating Twitter with nearly ten million tweets. With an average 4.7 million households tuning in, this blockbuster special is now the #2 BET telecast of all time, only behind the BET Awards 09 Michael Jackson tribute. Consistently ranking among the top five cable awards show for the past two years among total viewers, this year's show, which aired from 8:00 p.m.-11:39p.m.*, featured performances and appearances by Mariah Carey, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx, Nicki Minaj, Erykah Badu, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Stevie Wonder and Janelle Monáe. The 106 & PARK pre-show was the #1 BET evening telecast for the season and the after-party post show was the #1 Sunday late night cable telecast for the season among adults 18-49. The post-show also ranks as the #2 BET AWARDS post-show telecast ever, only behind the BET AWARDS 09 post show (Michael Jackson tribute year). BET AWARDS 13 was this year’s #2 award show on television among women 18-49 only behind the GRAMMY Awards and posted triple digit time slot gains against this season’s Sunday primetime shows.

The first ever BET Experience at L.A. LIVE in partnership with AEG, one of the leading sports and entertainment presenters in the world, drew 100,000 attendees to the downtown Los Angeles area for an electrifying three days and nights of music, film screenings, seminars, 106 & PARK live tapings, a Taste of Soul food festival, BET GRAMMY® Museum exhibit, comedy shows and concerts featuring a-list talent including Beyoncé, Miguel, The Roots,  J. Cole, Mike Epps, Cedric the Entertainer, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly, The Jacksons and New Edition.

The live telecast of BET AWARDS 13 dominated the digital and social media world with BET.com breaking an all-time single day record, drawing in more visitors than ever before in the history of the website. Daily unique visitors were up 39% from last year’s show while page views increased by 43% and video views were up 142% from last year’s day of show.  BET Mobile also smashed records, generating more page views and engagement than any other year in the network’s history. Mobile page views on the day of show were up 65% from last year, with app users performing 187,000 social actions on the day of show, an eight –fold increase over 2012. Mobile users were also fervently engaged in app features with over 45,000 app users playing the all-new “Hustle” leader board game for a chance to win fame and prizes and casting an average of 150 votes per person in June, an increase of 60% over 2012. Additional highlights include:

• The BET AWARDS 13 ranked #1 on both SocialGuide and Trendrr.TV’s charts measuring social media engagement for television
• The BET AWARDS 13 had a 76% increase in trending topics on Twitter over 2012
• From a social standpoint, the BET AWARDS 13 outperformed major 2013 tent-pole events including the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards
• More than a 100,000 posts on Instagram were tagged using our official hashtag #BETAwards
• The pre and post shows combined generated nearly half a million social interactions.  Both telecasts placed in the top 10 of most social television shows on June 30, 2013
