The NFL has announced new penalties against players who are charged with acts of domestic violence. League Commissioner Roger Goddell said, "We have to do better and we will" regarding stricter disciplinarian action amid criticism for their initially lenient response to the suspension of the Baltimore Ravens' Ray Rice. Under the new policy players will be suspended six games for first offense and be struck with a lifetime ban for a second. Rice was suspended for two games.

Ray McDonald will be the first to feel the effect of the policy change. He was arrested early Sunday morning on felony domestic violence charges.
According tot he NFL media, McDonald was released on bail on the same day.
