Slice Report weekly rundown 5/18: News on the Royal Wedding, the new U.S. Embassy opening in Jerusalem and more

On Monday Ivanka Trump opened the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem as Israeli armed forces killed hundreds of Palestinians along the Gaza Strip. The embassy was relocated to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, marking the 70th anniversary of the formation of Israel, a Jewish state. Evangelical Pastor John Hagee who was in attendance said the move Pres. Donald Trump approved is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

Democrat Jahana Hayes, the 2016 teacher of the year, has announced her candidacy for Congress in Connecticut's  5th District. The seat is being left vacant by Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) who did not fire her chief of staff when knowing of accusations that he allegedly harassed and threatened a female staffer. 

The 2018 teacher o the year Mandy Manning of Spokane Washington is being political in her own way.  She gave Pres. Trump letters from 45 refugee students hoping to soften his position on immigration. Manning teaches high school English and math.


Petty racial profiling and harassment incidents are piling up around the U.S.

In Oakland, a white woman threatened to call police on a black family preparing to hold a BBQ in a local park. Another white woman who was passing by noticed the harassment and intervened. The cell phone video went in Harrisburg, PA someone called police on members of the sigma gamma rho sorority which was permitted to clean the highway as a community service project, the caller claimed the group of women were fighting and though they were not, the officer took their ID's. BUT in Memphis TN police flipped the script on a nosey neighbor who called them on Michael Hayes real estate investor who was inspecting the home next to hers.  When police arrived she continued to rush and berate Hayes and they told her he was authorized to do his job and if she did not stop they would arrest her.

Voicing their opinions on social media may people suggest that people who report false crimes should be arrested.

The American Idol season finale will have a broader line up when it airs this Sunday (May 20) and Monday (May 21) on ABC. All three judges, Lionel Richie, Katty Perry and Luke Bryan will perform. Gusts will include Kermit the frog “American Idol” has announced the lineup for the season finale, airing
, along with Bebe Rexha, Nick Jonas and Mustard, , Darius Rucker, Gary Clark, Jr.,Yolanda Adams and the legendary Patti Labelle. A few years ago Labelle said the show needed better judges. Looks like this set of judges struck the right chord with the R&B diva.

Giving women everywhere a reason to believe in fairytale romances, at last, an American will be formally named into Britan's Royal family tomorrow. The Royal Wedding of the Millennium takes place on Saturday, May 19, 2018. A mixed race African American Meghan Markle from Compton, star of the USA Network's legal drama Suits, will take her vows with Prince Harry of Wales among page boys and bridesmaids, and 2460 British citizens watching on the grounds of Windsor Palace. However, Markle will not be the first black prominent royal. Queen Sophie Charlotte reigned as the Queen of England in the late 1800s. Of African descent he was a black moor and has been acknowledged as Queen Elizabeth's ancestor For the first time at a royal wedding a gospel choir will perform and the first black bishop of the Episcopal church in America will preside over the regal affair. Sadly, Markles 73-year-old father Thomas won't be giving her away. He had a heart attack and is undergoing surgery today. Plus he was involved in drama selling pics to the paparazzi. But Markel asked her future father in law to walk her down the aisle and he said yes! What a welcome to the royal family. Check your local listing for air times.
