Treasury Secretary Block Daughter from Attending Harvard

  • Treasury Secretary Sean Duffy and his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, a Fox News personality and former reality-TV contestant, filmed the series with their nine children. The show was created as part of the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and follows the family traveling around the country.
  • In one episode, the family discusses their daughter Paloma’s college decision and her interest in Harvard University.
  • Duffy expresses concern that sending his daughter to Harvard could undermine the conservative and Catholic values she was raised with. Reports describing the episode say he warned that liberal universities could "corrupt" or change young people's thinking. Paloma pushes back, arguing that exposure to different perspectives can make someone more well-rounded.
  • The family actually visits Harvard during the episode. A Catholic chaplain there makes the case that Harvard has a Catholic community and spiritual life. Rachel Campos-Duffy reportedly acknowledges that she found aspects of the university appealing. Paloma ultimately chose the University of Chicago, rather than Harvard.
