Ernest Pugh to appear in hit stage play, "I Need A Man"

buzzz worthy. . .

Gospel Music’s Leading Man, Earnest Pugh, is making a special appearance in the Washington, D.C. leg of Michael Matthews’ hit stage musical, “I Need A Man,” that is touring nationally. Pugh will stop by The Warner Theater May 8-11th @ 8 p.m. each night (although, the play continues without Pugh through the 13th) and stars Jackée, Ginuwine, Drew Sidora, Big Daddy Kane, Beverly Todd, Chris “Play” Martin, Alyson Williams and comedian, Pierre. Pugh will be performing the special medley of his two #1 hits “Rain on Us” and “I Need Your Glory” that he sang on this year’s Stellar Awards broadcast.

“I am pleased to team up with the Godfather of Urban Stage Plays: Michael Matthews again because he gave me my first opportunity as an actor back in the late 90's,” Pugh recalls. “I started out as an understudy for the Late Ronald Winans but later got my own role playing opposite of Ollie Woodson. Michael Matthews has always believed I would top charts and pack houses across the globe and his very words have become a reality. Its fitting and proper for me to join the cast in DC as it is my #1 market as a gospel artist.” Tickets range from $32.50 to $47.50 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. The Warner Theater is located at 513 13th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004.

In 2010, Billboard magazine named Pugh the #4 gospel radio airplay artist of the year and his current radio single, “I Need Your Glory,” is currently #9 on the Hot Gospel Songs chart. The song has been on the chart for over a year and peaked at #1 for several weeks this year. A Memphis native who was mentored by O’Landa Draper & the Associates back in the 1990s, Pugh released his first solo CD in 2006 and showed off his five-octave vocals on the radio hit “Wrapped Up, Tied Up, Tangled Up.” After years of making respectable forays into gospel, Pugh finally hit it big in 2009 with his #1 smash “Rain On Us.”
