Rue on Race: Young actress sums up the issue of misappropriation of Black culture with one question in a viral video

Amandla Stenberg, a 16-year-old who played Rue in "Hunger Games" is fed up with the misappropriation of Black culture in the entertainment industry and it impact in the real world.  She sums up the issue of racial/cultural appropriation with one question in a video titled "Don't Cash Crop My Corn Rows" that has  gone viral.  She asks,  "What if America loved Black people as much as it loves Black culture?"  Key to her argument, she explains the upkeep  of black hair is a necessity for Blacks not a commodity while she eloquently calls out entertainers from Madonna and Katy Perry to Macklemore and Ryan for banking on "blackness."  Stenberg and a friend addressed the toipc for a history project and since being posted online earlier this week, it has prompted social media discourse.
