Dr. Bobby Jones Farewell dinner (PHOTOS)

buzzz worthy. . .

On August 2, the production crew faded to black for the last time on "Bobby Jones Gospel" after 35 years on air, making it the longest running program in television history.  The occasion was bittersweet, with both joyous and solemn moments evident throughout the taping, as to be expected from a program with which millions of viewers grew up.  The popular Sunday morning program was the first show to air on  BET, originally premiering in a primetime slot and used as capital to leverage the budding network according to Dr. Jones.  In his final remarks Jones reminded the audience in studio B in Washington,  DC that BET was more than rap videos -- that is  stands on  a godly foundation.

A bevy of gospel talent,  media and music executives attended the event including Isaac Caree, Reggie Gay, Bill Carpenter, Jeffrey Golden, Anita Wilson, Veda Brown, Ernest Pugh and more.   Dr. Jones could not hold back the tears.  In a video played at the dinner BET Founder Bob Johnson said, "Without Jones there would be no BET."

The farewell season of "Bobby Jones Gospel" premieres in October and will air throughout 2016.
