Prince has died at the age of 57, The Recording Academy Responds

Dearly beloved, Prince Rogers Nelson has died. Known the world over as Prince the often elusive musical virtuoso had been on tour when he fell ill. Less than a week after a plane made an emergency landing so that he could be treated for Flu, the music legend was found dead at his Paisley Park Compound in his native Minnesota, reports TMZ. An emergency call was made, but the "Purple Rain" singer was dead on arrival. The cause of death has not been released.
The artist's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed his passing in a statement: "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57. There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time."
Local news station WTVR reports the community is in shock over his passing since Prince had just had a party on Saturday. They say say he showed off his new guitar, introduced new music and went to bed not feeling well.
Fans have started gathering across the street from Paisley Park where Prince often welcomed them for free concerts.
Musically innovative, Prince introduced a blend of Rock and R&B with his guitar being the feature of his signature style. Few Black front men played an instrument and sang and no one did it like Prince. During his hey day, Prince's name was only uttered in the same breath as the late Michael Jackson who became a close friend.
Drawn to both eroticism and eccentricity in 1993 Prince changed his name to an un-pronounceable emblem that morphed together the symbols for male and female. He responded to the title "The Artist Formerly Known at Prince" or "The Artist" for early a decade.
Prince sold over 100 million records in his over 30 year career and earned a slew of accolades, including seven Grammy Awards.
