GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED -- BRIDGERTON SNUBBED!

Hollywood is gradually getting back on track with award show season as the Golden Globes finally announced 2021 nominees Wednesday morning. Yes, both Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Bozeman and "Lovecraft Country" are on the list as are many shows America fell in love with during quarantine, unable to visit movie theaters--most of which air on Netflix that has an astounding total of 42 nominations.

But, "Bridgerton," one of the top shows in Netflix history was royally snubbed, which is a sort of dethroning of her Majesty Shonda Rhimes who created it. Since the Globes are considered a rough gauge for award shows to come, not recognizing a show that was almost instantly renewed and one of Netflix's most popular offerings says that the powers that be did not see and appreciate what fans saw. A different Netflix connected royal series was nominated instead, "The Crown."

The Netflix drama "Mank," leads with six nods. "Schitt's Creek" raked up the wins last year and is still a favorite garnering 4 nods. The "Trial of the Chicago 7" receives multiple nods too. Shonda Rimes' royal romance "Bridgerton" did not make the list at all, despite the fact that it is immensely popular and was renewed after a few episodes. The Hollywood Foreign Press nominated Regina King as one of three women directors, a change that has been fought for hard over the years in a male-dominated system. This year Norman Leer will be recognized with the Carol Burnett Lifetime Achievement Award. Tina Fey and Amy Polar will return to host the 78th Golden Globe Awards airing on Sunday, February 28, 2021.
