(U.S. Capitol): Pres. Joe Biden delivered a speech on Tuesday hoping to restore domestic peace on college campuses and on battlegrounds in the Middle East. Speaking in Emancipation Hall at the U.S. Capitol on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, he concentrated on the discrimination against Jews then and now and the importance of never forgetting the pain and loss of the Holocaust. It was one of many times the 46th president condemned the anti-Semetism that millions of Jews continue to endure. Long before today, Pres. Biden signed and Executive Order condemning Jewish hatred in America.
A group of youth lit standing candles to remember the deceased and survivors. The ceremony also included a brief history of the Holocaust, a solo in native language and chanted prayers. A particularly moving moment was when survivors and audience member held up photos of the Jewish ancestors.
Here are highlighted quotes from the event:
Biden said the hatred of Jews did not begin to end with the Holocaust adding the current war is the deadliest day since. "SEVEN AND A HALF O ITHS KATER PEOPLE ARE ALREADY FORGETTING."
"DEMONIZ7NG ANY MINORITY IS A THREAT TO EVERY MINORITY," THE PRESIDENT SAID.
THERE IS NO. PLACE ON ANY CAMPUS IN AMERICA OR ANY PLACE IN AMERICA FOR ANTSEMETISM AND HATE SPEECH. VIOLENT ATTACKS AND DESTROYING PROPERTY IS NOT PEACEFUL PRROTEST. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW.
