The Department of Homeland Security announced that both TSA PreCheck and Global Entry will be temporarily halted, with the suspension beginning Sunday at 6 a.m. ET. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the agency is redirecting limited staff to handle standard airport security and customs processing during the funding lapse.
The shutdown began on February 14, and DHS says the pause is necessary because TSA and CBP must prioritize the “general traveling population” over expedited screening programs.
What this means for travelers
No new enrollments or renewals for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry during the suspension.
No expedited lanes for current members — all travelers will be routed through standard security and customs lines.
Longer wait times are expected at airports and ports of entry nationwide.
DHS has described the move as temporary, tied directly to the shutdown’s impact on staffing and resources.
