LOS ANGELES, CA – SangGirl Management and A Source Of Joy Theatricals/Broadway In The Hood are proud to present the NOT YOUR MAMA MONOLOGUES starring award winning recording artists Kelly Price and Dawn Robinson for one night only April, 20th 2013, 7:30 p.m. at the Complex Hollywood Ruby Theatre, 6476 Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood, CA  90038.

Price who is best known for her legendary vocal style teams up with Robinson formerly lead singer of the groups En Vogue and Lucy Pearl to offer an intimate evening of healing, inspiration and empowerment.  The two platinum selling Divas will take the stage for an unforgettable one night performance that will take their audience on a personal journey from childhood experiences to performing on stage in front of millions, and all the bumps, bruises, and heartache in between.

The NOT YOUR MAMA MONOLOGUES; a stage show written by Kelly Price and Dawn Robinson, and directed by Torrey Russell (Founder of  Broadway In The Hood) is at times hilarious, brutal, disconcerting, poignant and is the raw result and actual account of moments in the lives of two of R&B  music’s leading ladies Dawn Robinson and Kelly Price.  Robinson lights up the live theater stage with her unique perspective on what it’s like to finally find her own voice in an industry where she was forced to remain silent, while Price recounts a moment in her childhood that changed her life, and shaped her view of people, relationships, and her self-image.  This gripping evening of songs and monologues is guaranteed to take you on a journey that is both entertaining and enlightening.  The human experience is one we all share and this evening is dedicated to anyone who dares to live, love, learn and heal through it all! 

About Kelly Price
Kelly Price’s credits include cameos in the television series “Soul Food” (Showtime), Silver Screen comedy smash “Bringin’ Down The House” (starring Steve Martin/Queen Latifah). In addition Kelly also starred in the stage production of “Why Did I Get Married” written by Tyler Perry, which was created using original Kelly Price songs to tell the story.  This would later be translated into the big screen production that would follow.  Other musical contributions for the box office have included songs for “The Hurricane” (Denzel Washington), “Life” (Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence), “Blue Streak” (Martin Lawrence), “Diary of A Mad Black Woman,” “Daddy’s Little Girls,” and “Madea’s Big Happy Family.” 

In recent years Kelly added motivational speaker, and author to her extensive resume; penning the book “Inscriptions of My Heart “writing the thoughts of her journey as a Preacher’s Kid/R&B singer and the controversy that sometimes comes with it. 

Now living in Los Angeles Kelly Price is expanding her view again and is pursuing, screenwriting and more acting.  She continues to write record and wow crowds all over the world with live performances successfully marrying both her gospel -roots and her R&B favorites in her own unique and inspirational way.  She continues to give back through her partnerships with Breast Cancer Organizations and her work with youth groups around the country targeting kids in the inner cities.

About Dawn Robinson
Dawn Robinson’s career reads like a roadmap on how to become a star.  Born in Connecticut and raised in Oakland , California, she started to hone her singing skills at age17 in local clubs throughout the Bay area.  In 1989, Dawn auditioned for what would become one of the best selling female groups of all time, En Vogue.  Her outstanding audition positioned her as a standout presence among 4 very talented individuals.  As the provocative lead singer on most of the groups hits, she became a fan favorite with her distinct voice which was featured on number Billboard Chart toppers like, "Don't Let Go",  "Giving Him Something He Can Feel", "Never Gonna Get It", "Hold On" and "Free Your Mind", selling over 35 million records worldwide.

Dawn flipped the script when she left En Vogue in 1998 and joined up with Raphael Saadiq (Toni, Tony Tone!) and Ali Shaheed Muhammed to co-launch the eclectic trio, Lucy Pearl.  Their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album hit gold. 

A force to be reckoned with, Dawn has appeared in the blockbuster feature film “Life” with Eddie Murphy, and Martin Lawrence, graced the pages of some of today’s most popular publications such as, Rolling Stone, Vogue, Ebony , USA Today, Essence, Jet and Vibe magazines, and has had endorsements with Coca Cola and Converse.
