Videos and Photos: Megafest took Hollywood to Church

 Oprah Winfrey, Vince and Tamar, Tamela Mann, Jennifer Hudson and numerous others flocked to Dallas, TX on Labor Day weekend to get their spiritual fill and share their talents.  For many Christian entetainers regular church attendance is not a part of their demanding schedules. Merging faith and entrtainment, Megafest gave them a chance to  do both.

DALLAS (Sept. 5, 2013) - Mega is almost an understatement for the three-day festival, hosted by Bishop T.D. Jakes and wife Serita, known asMegaFest.  Held in Dallas, Aug. 29-31, 2013 the ultimate intersection of faith family attracted more than 75,000 participants during its three-day run at multiple venues in the city: The Dallas Convention Center, the Omni Dallas Hotel and the American Airlines Center.
  
The largest event of its kind, MegaFest featured four of Jakes' most popular conferences: ManPower, Woman Thou Art Loosed, MegaYouth andMegaKidz along with celebrity entertainment, business and other inspirational features for the entire family.
  
Oprah Winfrey kicked-off the festival with the taping of her Lifeclass in front of thousands at the American Airlines Center. This was followed by numerous headliners including Joel and Victoria Osteen, who hosted an empowerment session, Oscar and Grammy winner, Jennifer Hudson, who headlined the Woman of Purpose concert and participated in the firstInternational Faith and Family Film Festival, Steve Harvey, "Scandal's"Kerry Washington, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, and of course, Bishop T.D. Jakes who spoke at numerous sessions including Woman Thou Art Loosed, ManPower and MegaYouth. Cedric "The Entertainer" and Niecy Nashhosted the "Just Churchin'" Comedy Show, while "omg! Insider's" Kevin Frazier moderated multiple panel presentations during the Film Festival.

Other notable personalities who attended, performed or participated in MegaFest activities include: Tyler Perry, Brandy, Ray J, Robert Townsend,Tamar Braxton, Terrell Owens, Michelle Williams, Ben & Jewel Tankard,Isaac Caree, Tisha Campbell Martin, Holly Robinson Peete, Kim Burrell,Mary Mary, Marvin Sapp, Alan Houston, Malinda Williams, Nicole Ari Parkerand Boris Kodjoe, Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin, Ray Chew, Emmittand Pat Smith, Fred Hammond, David and Tamela Mann, Jacob Latimore,Kirk Franklin, Tye Tribbett, Kierra Sheard, Mali Music, Anthony Mackie,Toccara, Wesley Jonathan, and more.

Alabama Pastor Shot and Killed in Domestic Incident

Pastor Da’Quarius Green , a 31-year-old leader of Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama, was shot on Dec. 23, 2025 and died several days later in the hospital after a domestic dispute at his home in Level Plains . Authorities have described the shooting as a “domestic incident” involving his wife,  𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐲. Local news station WTVY reported "c ourt records show that Green was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence charges 3 times in Houston County last year, with each of those cases dismissed. Also in 2024, a woman filed a protection order against Green in Houston County in which she believed him to be a danger," but did not confirm Mrs. Massey as the suspect.    Various reports indicate the couple's children were present when he was shot in the head.   In one instance, a woman who shared children with Green alleged that he repeatedly struck her , including once when she was pregnant.
