Maya Forever: Late poet immortalized on Forever Stamp

buzzz worthy. . .

First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah, and Ambassador Andrew Young were in attendance at a United States Postal Service (USPS) ceremony today revealing the Forever Stamp, dedicated to the late author and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou.

The dedication ceremony was held  at the Warner Theater in D.C. where people lined up early to purchased the commemorative stamp. The USPS will release 800,000 stamps bearing Ross Rossin's portrait of Angelou and fittingly offers a line associated with Angelou's autobiography, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

The Maya Angelou Forever Stamp reads:

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."

Another author wrote the Washington Post saying the line was from her book and has been long, but falsely attributed to Angelou.  USA Today has more.
