2019 GRAMMY NOMINEES ANNOUNCMENT & WINNERS

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Alicia Keys ensured women were honored throughout the show, connected well in her hosting duties and wowed the audience while playing her version of popular song she wish she would have written.

  • First Lady Michelle Obama surprised everyone as she joined Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith and J Lo to express the power of music and the crowd stood to their feet loving every minute of it.
  • Diana Ross showed the world what it means to be well preserved performing a song of thanks to fans and her classic "Reach Out and Touch" in a stunning Cinderella style red dress. It was a special performance for her upcoming 75th birthday this March.
  • J Lo scorched the stage despite criticism that she is a Latin artist who performed and entire segment in tribute to the 60th Anniversary of Motown, the first Black label that Berry Gordy started.

Cardi B got emotion on stage when accepting the award and recalling the challenge of making an album while pregnant with her little girl, who she thanked.

NOTE: This list will be updated with winners in real time during the broadcast of the Grammy awards.

SANTA MONICA, CALIF. —The Recording Academy™ welcomes this year's class of GRAMMY® nominees and for the first time, celebrates eight nominees in each of the General Field categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. This year's nominees were selected from more than 21,000 submissions across 84 categories, and reflect the wide range of artistic innovation that defined the year in music (Oct. 1, 2017–Sept. 30, 2018). As the only peer-selected music award, the GRAMMY Awards® are voted on by the Recording Academy's membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers.

"Reflection, reevaluation, and implementation have been the driving forces at the Recording Academy over the past year," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. "From convening our Task Force On Diversity & Inclusion and launching our new community-driven membership model, to increasing the number of nominees in the General Field, and to playing a leadership role in the successful passage of the landmark Music Modernization Act, the Recording Academy has reaffirmed its commitment to music creators across all facets of our industry. And, it's our awards process that has taken a front seat during this evolutionary period to ensure the GRAMMY Awards reflect the ever-changing needs of the creative community. We are proud of this year's nominations results and congratulate all of the talented and deserving nominees."

"Every year the Recording Academy voting membership has the biggest responsibility within our entire GRAMMY Awards process due to the fact they vote to determine who among their peers are the nominees," said Bill Freimuth, Chief Awards Officer of the Recording Academy. "Once again, their votes have produced an impressive list of nominees across multiple genres, promising music fans a spectacular show filled with stellar performances and unique GRAMMY moments."

The final round of GRAMMY voting is Dec. 13, 2018–Jan 9, 2019. The Recording Academy will present the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, live from Los Angeles' STAPLES Center and broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8:00–11:30 p.m. ET/5:00–8:30 p.m. PT.
