KORYN HAWTHORNE CELEBRATES FIRST-TIME NOMINATIONS FOR BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS, ALONG WITH WINS AT STELLAR AWARDS AND NAACP IMAGE AWARDS


 
Nashville, TN  – Chart-topper Koryn Hawthorne continues to amass a series of firsts, garnering nods for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with triple nominations across all Gospel categories: Top Gospel Artist, Top Gospel Album (Unstoppable), and Top Gospel Song (“Won’t He Do It”). Fresh off first-time wins at the Stellar Awards and NAACP Image Awards, the inspirational vocal phenom took home a Stellar Award for “Won’t He Do It” as Music Video of the Year (director: Casey Cross), and an Image Award for Unstoppable as Outstanding Gospel Album (Traditional or Contemporary). Hawthorne also made her second consecutive appearance performing on the Stellar Awards main stage this year.
 
Hawthorne has celebrated a record-breaking year, by setting a new record for a female artist at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart for 41 weeks with her smash hit, “Won’t He Do It.” Additionally, she earned a #1 debut on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart for her full-length debut album Unstoppable, won her first Dove Award, and garnered her first GRAMMY® nomination. In addition to releasing the single “Unstoppable” (feat. Lecrae) this year and performances on BET’s Super Bowl Gospel Celebration and the Stellar Awards, Hawthorne continues a busy slate of performances on the road, which includes opening Kirk Franklin’s LONG LIVE LOVE Tour. Kicking off this summer on July 11th in Austin, TX, tickets are on sale now for the cross-country tour, which will hit over 25 cities and runs until August 15th. She will also perform at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, LA on July 5th, at JoyFest in Charlotte, NC on May 25th, and at the 22nd Annual World Natural Hair Show, presented by Taliah Waajid Brands in Atlanta, GA on April 27th-28th.

Alabama Pastor Shot and Killed in Domestic Incident

Pastor Da’Quarius Green , a 31-year-old leader of Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama, was shot on Dec. 23, 2025 and died several days later in the hospital after a domestic dispute at his home in Level Plains . Authorities have described the shooting as a “domestic incident” involving his wife,  𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐲. Local news station WTVY reported "c ourt records show that Green was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence charges 3 times in Houston County last year, with each of those cases dismissed. Also in 2024, a woman filed a protection order against Green in Houston County in which she believed him to be a danger," but did not confirm Mrs. Massey as the suspect.    Various reports indicate the couple's children were present when he was shot in the head.   In one instance, a woman who shared children with Green alleged that he repeatedly struck her , including once when she was pregnant.
