Obama's Statement on VP Joe Biden Running for President


Pres. Barack Obama released a statement about his former running mate VP Joe Biden today in response to Biden announcing he is  running for president, the first such statement from Obama in the 2020 election cycle.  "President Obama has long said that selecting Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008 was one of the best decisions he ever made," said Obama spokesperson Katie Hill. "He relied on the Vice President's knowledge, insight, and judgment throughout both campaigns and the entire presidency. The two forged a special bond over the last 10 years and remain close today." But, he didn't endorse Biden and Biden later said he asked Obama not to. "I asked President Obama not to endorse," Biden told reporters in Wilmington, Delaware. "And he doesn't want to — whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits."

Obama may be avoiding any democrat be dubbed his "heir."  As the first Black POTUS, his role was unique and can not be duplicated in an sense.
