BET Awards to move forward on Jun 28

THE BET EXPERIENCE, THE THREE-DAY EVENT BEFORE THE “BET AWARDS,” WILL RETURN IN 2021

New York, NY  – BET announces plans to move forward with The “BET AWARDS” 2020, which will celebrate the brightest stars across music, television, film, sports, and philanthropy on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at 8 pm EST.  Using an array of innovative techniques and artist-generated content, the show will continue,  allowing the audience to join in a celebration of black love, joy, pride, and power with  an all-star lineup taking to TV’s biggest stage. The year 2020 marks both the 20th anniversary of the awards and BET’s 40th anniversary.  This year’s show will continue the rich history of providing fans with those special, not to be missed moments.  The official “BET Awards” 2020 nominations to be announced on a later date.
“The BET Awards are a seminal event - the biggest celebration of Black culture, Black accomplishment, Black excellence, and Black potential,” said Scott Mills, President of BET. “Our community, and the many millions who love Black culture, look to the BET Awards for signature moments of enrichment, entertainment and empowerment.  Recognizing the unique role the BET Awards plays for so many, and the challenging times we find ourselves in, we know it was more important than ever to deliver the BET Awards in 2020.
“At BET, we place the health and safety of attendees, staff, vendors, and partners first, which is why the biggest night in black entertainment will go on implementing this innovative production direction,“ said Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET. “For the past twenty years, The BET Awards have paid homage to all things now and relevant. Despite the challenges of today, we will deliver a show filled with larger than life, inspiring, empowering and entertaining moments, which have shown the magic of our culture for over two decades.” 

Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET will oversee The “BET Awards” 2020 and serve as Executive Producer along with Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment.

Due to the current global health crisis and pandemic of COVID-19, BET’s three-day event that leads up to the “BET Awards,” the BET Experience, will not move forward as scheduled on June 25-27. The BET Experience will return in 2021. All VIP packages sold to date will be available for a refund. More information is available at BET.com/Experience.

Pastor Da’Quarius Green , a 31-year-old leader of Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama, was shot on Dec. 23, 2025 and died several days later in the hospital after a domestic dispute at his home in Level Plains . NEWLYWEDS: Bishop Marvin Winans weds after 30 years

  By Mona Austin One of the most eligible bacherlors in Christianity has tied the knot - Marvin Winans remarries After being single for almost 30 years, legendary gospel singer and Bishop Marvin L. Winans, Sr. has wed his long time girlfriend Deneen R. Carter. Carter is a 57-year-old physical therapist and minister at Perfecting Church in Detroit, founded by Winans. Little is known about the bride publicly. The gospel legend introduced the now Mrs. Winans as his fiance to the congregants of Perfecting in October of 2021. The couple had been in a relationship for 15 years. Pastor Winans was previously married to fellow gospel singer Vicki Winans (with whom he has two sons) for 16 years before they divorced in 1995.   Data on murders (homicides) committed by race in the United States primarily comes from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, which relies on reports from law enforcement agencies. The most recent detailed breakdown available is for 2023, but due to the FBI's transition to a new reporting system (NIBRS), not all agencies submitted complete data—only about 70-80% of the population was covered, so totals are undercounts.
