FATHER VS. SON: Kirk Franklin's son releases audio of him threatening physical harm in profanity-filled rant; Artist addresses it on Kamron Hall SHow
LEAKED AUDIO ON KIRK FRANKLIN CURSING AT HIS SON
(The Slice): Gospel legend Kirk Franklin has released an apology for his part in an expletive-riddled argument with his first born son and opens up about the private ordeal on the Kamron Hall Show that airs today.
In case you missed it, here is background on the situation that was trending last week. . .
A conversation between Franklin and his son that went left also went viral after being exposed on Instagram.
"I will put my foot up your a**!," yells the gospel legend before hanging up on his son.
An unidentified person is heard laughing in the background as the "Love Theory" artist angrily unloads insults at the child he fathered before starting a family and marrying Tammy Collins 25 years ago.
The heated exchange that his estranged son Kerrion Franklin leaked on has his Franklin's Christian fanbase taking sides. Some say he mistreated his son by using profanity. Kerrion, 32 exposed a portion of their conversation wherein his father threatens to beat him and four times in a row his off-spring dares him to as he fires off curse words. Others like comedians Rickey Smiley and Steve Harvey support Mr. Franklin, saying they can identify with the challenges of raising a son.
Taking his family business back to "The Gram" Kerrion further aired his frustrations stating:
“Hanging up in my face, No apology, no compassion, no effort. Stop telling me to go home to my family. I don’t even know where they live.
“I don’t think I’ll ever trust my father to be alone around him ever again. I didn’t want to do this. I probably won’t release the entire recording because it’s too embarrassing that I’m even dealing with this.
“No matter what ppl think I pray my dad deals with his deep hatred toward me. I don’t feel safe around him at all."
Some say the Elder Franklin is exhibiting tough love ( excusing his use of expletives) but others condemn his conduct, seeing it as a form of parental neglect. Moreover, he is being scrutinized for his actions as a gospel artist responding in an ungodly manner. The gospel superstar released a video apology acknowledging they have sought to mend their "toxic" relationship with professional intervention for years. "I said words that were inappropriate," he admitted to fans.
KIRK FRANKLIN INTERVIEW ON THE CAMRON HALL SHOW
Franklin is not the only high profile person to have their dysfunctional family relationship play out in public. Many families can relate to the infighting that was exposed in the audio Kerrion chose to post. Kellyanne Conway, the former advisor to Pres. Donald Trump has been exposed by her teenage daughter Claudia.)
The motive for the exchange being shared publicly is not clear. What this a continuation of a previous fight? Was he attempting to show that he had a hard time connecting to his father due to a quick temper? Is this a ploy to gain more social media followers or a reality show perhaps? Without details directly from Kerrion there are no answers to these questions. He has allegedly been on drugs, a factor that often complicates familial relationships.
The younger Franklin has been in his father's life since he was a young boy. His depiction of his father as a dead beat dad does not add up to some of the history that is documented in photos. According to Kerrion, there was a time that he was not allowed to post photos of himself with the family, painting himself as a Black Sheep.
But of course, there is much more to this story. The audio that was shared comes in during a conversation that was already in progress so we do not know the full context of the argument. However, Kerrion has dropped morsels on his social media in the past that there is conflict with his father.
In hearing from Kirk Franklin in his first interview since the incident on the Kamron Hall Show, he sheds light on some of the unanswered questions, offering his point-of-view on what happened such as:
- He confirmed that Kerrion has been in therapy since he was a teenager. It has been a 20-year-log struggle to repair their relationship with the support of family and friends.
- As for the laughter that was heard in the background, he identified that it was his best friend John Drummond on the phone who he had invited into the situation to intervene.(Kirk had shared in his apology that he tried to get a counselor to intervene during the outburst."
- He wants to be there for Kerrion despite their problems, saying "I'm not going to stop trying to help, He's my son."
With his wife Tammy by his side, the clip ends when during his answer about whe
