DNI Tulsi Gabbard Accuses Obama of Russian Collusion

Tulsi Gabbard was trending on July 23, 2025, primarily due to her actions as Director of National Intelligence (DNI). She released declassified documents alleging that former President Barack Obama and his administration manipulated intelligence to falsely claim Russian interference helped Donald Trump win the 2016 election.

These claims, detailed in a House Intelligence Committee report, accused Obama of ordering a flawed intelligence assessment, sparking significant controversy. Posts on X amplified this, with some users praising Gabbard for exposing a "Russia collusion hoax," while others referenced her past, including being smeared as a Russian asset and placed on a terror watchlist. Her actions led to the Justice Department forming a Strike Force to investigate these allegations, further fueling online discussion.


Reaction to the DNI's press briefing was polarized as reflected in posts on X and media coverage. Supporters praised her for her bold allegations against former President Barack Obama, claiming she exposed a "Russia collusion hoax" and silenced the media with her directness.
For instance, one X user described her as "spectacular," asserting she dismantled narratives about her qualifications, while another said she left the briefing room "speechless" by confirming referrals of Obama to the DOJ.
Conversely, critics, including some journalists and Democrats, were highly critical. An X post claimed she was "destroyed by journalists" during a "bizarre" briefing, and mainstream media coverage was reportedly over 80% negative, with 250–300 critical stories published in five days.
Virginia Democrat Senator Mark Warner, dismissed her claims as a distraction from the Jeffrey Epstein controversy, criticizing the declassification as "irresponsible" and risking sensitive intelligence sources.
The briefing room dynamic was tense, with Gabbard accusing the media of pushing a false narrative, while reporters challenged her on the criminal implications of her allegations against
