PURSE GATE: The Purse, the Shade, and the Receipts: Heavenly vs. Toya

A $3900  designer handbag is at the center of a heated feud between  Dr. Heavenly Kimes and Toya Bush-Harris of "Married to Medicine."

By Mona Austin
The incident occurred during a recent season of Married to Medicine. After a party, a Balenciaga handbag was left behind at Toya's house. Toya brought it up in the cast group chat, asking "who's fake ass purse is this". Heavenly claimed the bag was hers, which led to a confrontation and ongoing drama. She won't confirm its authenticity but has shaded Toya by mentioning her "thick" investment portfolio compared to Toya having handbags, playing the status card.
Off camera Heavenly continued throwing shade: "Yes you have several bags, but you don't have several homes Toya. You don't have several businesses, a portfolio.  Toya, why are we still talking about this f*cking bag?  This bag is not that serious to me."
Toya defended her assertion by pointing out specific details about the bag: She claimed it was made of "pleather," not real leather.
She noted that the bag only contained lip gloss and no essentials like a wallet or keys, which she found suspicious for a genuine luxury item.
The conflict over the bag escalated the tension between the two and was a central storyline in a recent episode, even inspiring Dr. Simone Whitmore to host the  "bag making" class where the party confrontation happened.

Their exchange of insults wasn’t just about a purse — it reflects their values and was about pride, status, and two very different philosophies on money.

🔹 The Spark: Fake Designer Accusations

  • Heavenly has long teased Toya about her spending habits, especially on luxury items.

  • Things escalated when Toya implied Heavenly was carrying fake designer bags, a jab that hit hard in the statusy group. where labels are practically a love language.

  • Toya, who prides herself on her lifestyle and fashion, took that as a direct attack on her credibility and her marriage’s financial stability.

🔹 The “Make Your Own Purse” Event Explosion

  • During a purse‑making event in the latest season, the simmering tension boiled over.

  • Heavenly doubled down on her comments, framing them as “jokes,” while Toya saw them as disrespectful and rooted in jealousy or judgment.

  • The event became a symbolic battleground: Toya defending her right to enjoy luxury, Heavenly pushing the idea that Toya prioritizes materialism over smart financial choices.

🔹 The Deeper Conflict: Money Philosophy

This feud taps into a long-running divide between the two:

  • Toya’s stance: She works hard, her husband works hard, and she deserves to enjoy the fruits of that labor — including high-end fashion.

  • Heavenly’s stance: Toya spends too much on appearances and not enough on investments or long-term stability.

  • Heavenly often frames her shade as “financial wisdom,” but Toya hears it as condescension.

🔹 Why It Blew Up This Season

  • The purse event brought their opposing values into the spotlight -- materialism over financial security.

  • Heavenly’s comments weren’t just about a bag — they were about Toya’s identity.

  • Toya’s reaction wasn’t just about shade — it was about being tired of being painted as frivolous. But she is no match for Dr. Heavenly, a mean girl with obvious financial means.

  • Toya is likely striking out because Heavenly referred to Eugene's manhood online. This below the belt jab is worse than the usual cat fat barbs they have traded and brings the men potentially into the mess.

The petty drama saddened Dr. Jackie but it is the very thing that keeps fans glued to the screen. Dr. Jacki has been attempting to rid the dysfunctional sisterhood of toxic behavior for several season. A purse was just the prop and trigger; the real fight was about respect.

Is the bag real or fake? We may never know, but bag maker Balenciaga is the winner of this argument for the free advertising it received.

However, inquiry minds could consult Dr. Scott Metcale, the husband of Dr. Contessa for receipts His wife confessed that he once gave her a fake Coach bag and had paid his way through medical school selling knock off purses..
