TYSCOT RECORDS KICKS OFF 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A GRAMMY® WIN!

Tyscot Records (the oldest operating African American owned and faith-based recording label in the world) kicks off its 50th year anniversary by celebrating a huge win via its joint venture with PJ Morton’s Gumbo Studios. The Darrel Walls x PJ Morton album, Heart of Mine (Tyscot /Gumbo Studios), earned a Grammy® Award as Best Gospel Album of the Year at the 68th annual Grammy® Awards ceremony this past Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

It was Morton’s idea to produce an album around Darrel Walls’ voice which has been hailed as one of the most expressive and dynamic instruments in contemporary gospel. He is a longtime fan of Walls as the lead singer of the beloved sibling act, The Walls Group, and has featured him on some of his past recordings such as “The Better Benediction” and “So in Love.” The album has racked up over 5 million digital streams and the radio single “Able” is rising on gospel radio station playlists around the globe.

After the winners were announced, Morton and Walls came to the stage with a look of shock on their faces.  After Walls thanked his family and peers, he turned the microphone over to Morton. “I’m just so grateful, man,” he said from the stage. “He took me at a time where I was uninspired really and wanted to reignite that and Darrel… He is one of the best in the world at this and one of the best voices and I’m just so glad we were able to collaborate on this.”
