The Trump Administration has rightly celebrated the decline in violent crimes and murders in the U.S. over the last year yet a disturbing violent trend is emerging. More Americans are dying at the hands of federal law enforcement. In January alone, three U.S. citizens lives have been taken in encounters with federal law enforcement.
According to publicly reported data compiled from multiple incidents, at least eight people have been killed by federal immigration agents (ICE and Border Patrol) since the start of the current administration’s expanded enforcement operations, including Pretti and Good, with additional deaths occurring during immigration actions and enforcement encounters.
ICE operations are nit just botched by "cop killing", migrants are also dying in custody due to neglect and poor conditions.
In addition to these shootings, Reuters notes at least six immigrants have died in ICE custody in early 2026, and 32 people died in ICE detention facilities in 2025 — the deadliest year for the agency in more than two decades.
