The Treasury Approved Trump Coin Is In Production


The U.S. Mint in Philadelphia will release a new 1-dollar commemorative coin for America's semi-quincentennial featuring the face of Pres. Donald Trump. A 2020 law allows for production of commemorative currency although living presidents are prohibited from being printed on paper money. There has been controversy about the legality of the 45th and 47th POTUS being embossed on U.S. money as he has circumvented Congress to place his name on buildings. Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent said in an X post that production has begun on the gold coin that is intended to "honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism. Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all."

    • Portrait of President Donald Trump

    • “LIBERTY”

    • “IN GOD WE TRUST”

    • Dual dates 1776–2026

    • Gold‑colored finish (but not made of precious metal)

  • Back (Reverse):

    • Bald eagle from the Great Seal of the United States

    • “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”

    • “E Pluribus Unum”

Earlier drafts showed Trump with a raised fist and the words “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT,” referencing the 2024 assassination attempt, but that design was replaced.

The coins are being minted in Philadelphia, confirmed by the Treasury Department.

📅 Release timeline

The coins are already in production and scheduled to be available this fall in rolls and bags for collectors.

⚖️ Legal controversy

There is significant debate over whether a living president can appear on U.S. currency.

  • Federal law bars living people from appearing on paper money, but coins fall under different rules.

  • A 2020 law authorizing semiquincentennial coins prohibits living people on the reverse, but not the front — which is how the Mint justifies the design.

  • Critics argue Congress did not explicitly authorize Trump’s portrait.
