Comedian DL Hugley said the Trump Administration should apply their immigration policies to Nicki Minaj and deport her instead of showing her favor. The rap artist -- who is a non-citizen and does not have the right to vote --appeared on FOX news endorsing the Republican ticket again after Pres. Trump publicly commented on her rear end. Hughley responded, "If they are going to deport people who have been a nuisance to this country, who have done harm to this country and shouldn't be here, they need to get them m-efers."
"You guys are so blessed to be able to vote and you have to more than ever now. Please, vote red," Minajs said while pointing and wining at the camera.
The fact that she can not vote and is endorsing Trump and Republicans is not the issue. She is acting in her capacity as a fan of a celebrity president and anyone can tell someone to vote even if they do not have the right. The problem is that outside of the context of a campaign, Minaj does not represent the core of attributes of conservatism and her response to the president embracing her seems contrived for the moment. The Trump immigration agenda, conservative values, pro-family Christianity and America first ideology -- are against people just like her. She does not reflect the Christian values that the GOP says it upholds. Her racy, hyper-sexualized image she portrays as an entertainer is also not something that conservatives openly support, adding to the contradiction in her support. Many of Minaj's fans are members of the gay and trans community and she has staunchly rejected trans rights. Her presence on the campaign trail is to appeal to young voters.
Hugley pointed out that the immigration part of this story does matter. "Despite you seeing what happened to the immigrant community, the horrors that are visited upon them, ...you still championing the man that did it -- I hope that if he loses and you are out of favor, care your ass." He mentioned how the Trump administration removed protections from Haitians and Venezuelans.
Minaj was born in Trinidad and came to America as a child but in all the decades she has lived in the U.S. like other violators, she has not become an official citizen. In promoting the Trump agenda she is ignoring all of the negative impacts of immigration reform from people getting shot, family separations and the living conditions at detention centers.
